Viruses are much smaller than bacteria. They do not reproduce independently, are not made up of cells, and do not need food. To reproduce, viruses need a host, such as an animal or plant cell, to use its DNA or RNA to produce new virus particles. Viruses usually infect particular cells. For example, HIV viruses only multiply in immune cells, and hepatitis viruses only multiply in liver cells.
